Hedgehog Counselling

Person-Centred Counselling available in person, from my warm office in Baldock, online using Zoom and via telephone, based in the UK.

I HAVE CURRENT AVAILABILITIES.

Hi I'm Kevyn, a warm, person-centred counsellor and a registered member of The British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP). Throughout my website, you can find out more about how I work, but here I will offer you a brief overview of some of my experience and the sort of things I can help you with.

Anxiety - Are you generally anxious, or are there certain things that trigger your anxiety? We can explore where this started, what impacts you and why and help you find ways that work for you to live your life.

Depression - This can encompass a wide range of feelings, from low mood and disinterest to medically diagnosed depression. The challenge can be that we end up telling ourselves that we're not "bad enough" to need help, or "others have it worse." Only you can know your own experiences, but you always deserve help.

Queer / LGBTQIA+ Counselling - LGBT Counselling, or Queer Therapy, covers a huge umbrella of experiences, no two of which will be the same. Whether it is sexuality, gender, relationship, identity or anything else to do with who you are, it can help to talk about it with someone who will understand. Click the link to see some of the topics this may include.

Abuse - Abuse comes in many forms, including emotional, physical, sexual, financial and psychological. I can be hard to even acknowledge. Having spent time as a counsellor working with those who have experienced domestic abuse, I can understand why a safe and trusted space is vitally important.

Loss / Grief / Bereavement - Often thought about in relation to deaths, it can feel like a part of you or your life is missing. This can also relate to loss of jobs, missed opportunities, the end of relationships. I spent over a decade, working as a Bereavement Officer in the NHS and I have seen how grief is a deeply personal experience that we sometimes need help coping with..

Stress / Life Changes / Work Challenges - These aren't all always related, but can all have huge impacts on how we deal with our every day lives, and colour our experiences. Taking time to understand and come to terms with how we are feeling can help you cope better with your day to day life.

Why am I called Hedgehog Counselling?

I chose the name Hedgehog Counselling after some long thought. In fact I went through a number of names, but none felt right until I landed on this.
I have used hedgehogs as inspiration for years and I have developed an affinity for them. They also feel like a perfect symbol for each of us. As we grow and develop, we learn quite quickly that pain isn't always easy, so we develop protective behaviours and coping mechanisms, which become parts of ourselves, designed to prevent us getting hurt as easily, much like spines on a hedgehog. Also like a hedgehog, we can twist ourselves into balls so tight, that those parts that were originally there to protect us, start to hurt us.

This can be where counselling comes in. It's not always why people come to counselling, sometimes life feels too much, or there has been a sudden change in our lives, or we feel that people just don't get us or we may even not know why at all.
Not everyone needs help, but anyone can need help.
