Gender Identity Counselling

In Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire & Online across the UK

Exploring gender can be complex, personal, and sometimes difficult to put into words.

You might feel certain about who you are, questioning aspects of your identity, or somewhere in between. You may be navigating change, uncertainty, or a growing awareness that something doesn’t quite fit.

I offer gender-affirming counselling where you don’t have to simplify, label, or justify your experience.

Who I Work With

I’m Kevyn Hopkins-Hall, a queer, BACP-registered counsellor working with a wide range of gender identities and experiences.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Trans men and trans women

  • Non-binary identities

  • Genderfluid experiences

  • Agender and gender-neutral identities

  • Demigender identities

  • People questioning or exploring their gender

  • People who feel outside or disconnected from traditional gender categories

I understand that gender is not one thing, and people’s experiences of it can be fluid, evolving, or difficult to define. You don’t need to fit into a specific category to be supported here.

Gender identity is shaped by many different factors, including:

  • Personal experience and self-understanding

  • Social and cultural expectations

  • Relationships and community

  • Safety, visibility, and acceptance

For some people, gender is a central part of identity. For others, it may feel fluid, contextual, or less defined.

I understand that:

  • There is no single “trans experience”

  • Non-binary and gender-diverse identities are not variations of one thing, but distinct experiences

  • Language can be helpful for some and limiting for others

Therapy can be a space where you don’t need to reduce your experience to something simplified or easily explained.

I work with:

  • Individuals at any stage of exploring their gender

  • People with defined identities and those without labels

  • People who are certain, questioning, or unsure

  • People who are just curious

  • People who are looking to support and understand people in their lives who may express different identities to their own

How I Can Support You.

You might be:

  • Questioning your gender identity

  • Exploring language or labels that feel right

  • Considering social or medical transition

  • Reflecting on how you relate to your body

  • Navigating how others see or understand you

  • Feeling uncertain, conflicted, or overwhelmed

You don’t need clarity to begin therapy.

This can be a space to explore, reflect, and take things at your own pace, without pressure to define yourself. In our work together, we might explore:

  • Understanding your sense of gender and identity

  • Finding language (or choosing not to)

  • Navigating questioning or change

  • Exploring dysphoria, euphoria, or ambivalence

  • Making sense of internal conflict or uncertainty

  • Thinking about transition (social, medical, or none)

  • Navigating relationships, family, or community

  • Building a sense of self that feels authentic and sustainable

My approach is primarily person-centred, meaning we work at your pace, focusing on what feels most important to you.

Why Work With Me

  • I am a queer, gender-affirming therapist

  • I work with the full spectrum of gender diversity

  • I understand that gender is complex, nuanced, and deeply personal

  • I offer a non-judgemental, non-pathologising space

  • I work with the intersection of identity, relationships, and neurodivergence

  • You won’t need to educate me about gender diversity or justify your experience

I also understand that gender identity often connects with other aspects of experience.

I work particularly with clients where gender intersects with:

  •  Queer / LGBTQ+ identity

  •  Relationships, including polyamory or non-traditional structures

  •  Kink and alternative communities

  •  Neurodivergence (autistic, ADHD)

These intersections can shape:

  • Identity development

  • Communication and expression

  • Relationships with others

  • Experiences of acceptance or misunderstanding

Therapy can hold all of these together, not as separate issues, but as part of your lived experience.

FAQs

Do I need to identify as trans to work with you?
No, you don’t need a specific label. I work with anyone exploring or questioning their gender, as well as those with established identities.

What if I’m not sure how I identify?
That’s completely okay. Therapy can be a space to explore uncertainty without pressure to come to a conclusion.

Can you support me if I’m considering transitioning?
Yes, we can explore your thoughts, feelings, and options at your pace, without pressure in any direction, and even look at other resources that you may find useful.

Will I need to explain gender concepts to you?
No, you won’t need to educate me about gender diversity. You’re welcome to share what matters to you, in your own way.

Do I have to talk about everything straight away?
No, you are always in control of what you share. We can go at a pace that feels safe and manageable.

What if I want to start therapy because someone in my life has come out to me?

That’s completely welcome. When someone shares their identity with you, it can bring up a range of thoughts and feelings, including care, uncertainty, or questions about how best to support them.

Therapy can offer a space to explore your response, develop understanding, and think about how to support them in a way that respects both their experience and your own.
