Kink Aware Counselling
In Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire & Online Across the UK

Kink can be an important, meaningful part of how people experience themselves, their relationships, and their connection to others.

For some, it is sexual. For others, it may be about power, trust, expression, identity, or ritual, and can be woven into everyday life as well as specific experiences or spaces.

But finding a therapist who understands this, without judgement, assumption, or reducing it to something purely sexual, can be difficult.

I offer kink-aware counselling where you don’t have to explain or defend this part of your life.

I understand that kink is diverse, nuanced, and deeply personal, and that it cannot be reduced to a single definition or experience.

What Does Kink-Aware Therapy Mean?

Kink-aware therapy recognises that kink is not one single thing.

It can include a wide range of experiences and expressions, such as:

  • Power dynamics and power exchange

  • BDSM practices

  • Shibari and rope work

  • Group or community-based experiences

  • Solo exploration and identity

  • Ritual, structure, or ways of relating

For many people, kink is not separate from the rest of their life, it can be part of how they understand themselves, their relationships, and the way they connect with others.

Kink-aware therapy means:

  • Not reducing kink to something purely sexual

  • Understanding the importance of consent, communication, and agency

  • Recognising the difference between consensual dynamics and harm

  • Creating space to explore experiences without judgement or assumption

FAQs

Do I need to be actively involved in kink to work with you?
No, you might be curious, questioning, or just beginning to explore. All of this is welcome.

Will you judge my interests or experiences?
No, I offer a non-judgemental space where kink is understood as a valid form of expression.

Can you help if I’ve had a difficult experience within kink?
Yes, therapy can support you in processing experiences and making sense of what happened, at your pace.

What if kink doesn't feel good sometimes?
Good and safe kink is based on communication, consent, and agreed boundaries. Therapy can also help explore situations where those boundaries may have been unclear or crossed and how you can prioritise safety and communication in the future as well as explore what it not feeling good means to you.

Will I need to explain or educate you about kink?

No, you won’t need to teach me the basics or justify your experiences. You’re welcome to share as much or as little detail as feels right for you, and we can focus on what matters most to you.

Do I have to talk about everything in detail?

No, you are always in control of what you share. You don’t need to explain every aspect of your interests or experiences. We can work at your pace, focusing on what feels important, safe, and relevant to you.

What if I’m still figuring things out?

That’s completely okay. You don’t need to have clear labels or certainty about your interests. Therapy can be a space to explore curiosity, questions, and uncertainty without pressure to define yourself.

Who I work with.

Kink doesn’t exist in isolation for many people.

I work particularly with clients where kink intersects with:

  • Queer / LGBTQ+ identity

  • Polyamory and ethical non-monogamy

  • Neurodivergence (autistic, ADHD)

These intersections can shape:

  • Communication styles

  • Relationship dynamics

  • Boundaries and consent

  • Identity and self-understanding

I work with:

  • Individuals

  • People in relationships

Sessions can focus on your personal experiences, identity, or relationship dynamics. Therapy can be a space where all of these parts are welcomed together.
